Job Overview: 
Under direct supervision of the Athletic Department, the Cheerleading Advisor is responsible for the management and administration of the cheer program and team. The successful candidate will oversee a cheer program in a Christ-centered environment intentional about recruiting, retaining, and developing students toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. 
 
Responsibilities 
·         Understand the organizational culture, the role of athletics within the Nelson University community, and a willingness to consistently perpetuate and display the mission of the university through actions and words with participants, coaches, university personnel and general public. 
·         Recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes that fit the mission and scope of Nelson University 
·         Limit program attrition and maintain stable roster through retention of cheer participants 
·         Achieve enrollment management goals defined by the institution 
·         Monitor and support cheer participant academic progress 
·         Ensure that institutional and other governance policies are followed, with no major violations 
·         Manage program budget as identified prior to the start of each academic year 
·         Manage team fundraising activities 
·         Lead efforts to enhance school spirit and student engagement through cheer involvement. 
·         Collaborate with athletic marketing and game-day staff as needed. 
·         Oversee and support team involvement in community service 
·         Manage related program administrative duties, including but not limited to: compliance, equipment inventory, knowledge and scheduling of athletic events for cheer involvement and requirements of related support service areas (i.e. SID, LAT, facilities and game management) 
·         Other duties as assigned by athletic director or institution
 
Organizational Relationship 
·         Reports directly to and is accountable athletic director or designate 
·      Oversight of cheer program 

Qualifications
·         Candidate must be an openly committed Christian and affirm the mission and distinctives of Nelson University through lifestyle and program development.
·         Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
·         Ability to work nights and weekends.
·         Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, computer proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
·         CPR (required) and First Aid Certification.
·         Cheer coaching experience (preferably 1-3 years)
 
Other 
  • Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance
  • Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license or have access to reliable transportation. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record
  • Will be evaluated annually
